Dame Hannahs welcomes new volunteer

Thursday 09 June 2022

Maddie Courtnay joined Dame Hannahs recently as a volunteer in our warehouse in Transit Way, Plymouth. Having spotted a sign in the shop window, she subsequently signed up to volunteer and now works twice a week sorting and hanging clothes.

Maddie lives in Ernesettle and worked as a psychotherapist for 30 years. She also taught psychotherapy at Cornwall College in Saltash for several years. She has volunteered in the past for the Citizens Advice Bureau and Probation Service and currently also volunteers at the Listening Post at Plymouth University.

Maddie said “For me volunteering at Transit Way is all about the people. I really like the company and the people are lovely. I like feeling useful and also having a structure to my week. When I retired I was keen to do some volunteering and to work with other people. I also love the big space at Transit Way. I had never heard of Dame Hannahs before but it has been interesting to learn more about the charity.”

Dame Hannahs Head of Fundraising and Retail Operations, Daniel Burke, said “Maddie has been a pleasure to have on board. Her can-do attitude and willingness to help across a variety of tasks has made her a real asset to our warehouse team.”
