I have been exhibiting my work since 2007 when, encouraged by my wife (Sara Gilbert, painter and fellow resident artist), I took part in Devon Open Studios at Hazelwood House in our first joint exhibition.
Since then I have exhibited at Birdwood House in Totnes, the former 69 Collective Gallery also in Totnes, Chelston Gallery in Torquay, the 2009 & 2011 Harbertonford Open Studios, and the 2010 Devon Open Studios at Chelston Gallery as part of a group. I also took part in “Sustainability Through The Arts” at Ilsington, and the Dittisham Arts Festival in 2010. Two of my photographs were exhbited at Harboour House, Kinsbridge with Sara and Susan Ash, and in October Sara and I took part in the South Hams Forum Arts Trail.
My work tends to be more abstract than figurative as I’m interested in recording images that other people tend to miss. I prefer more “painterly” images as well as enjoying the quirky pictures obtained from close observation, often rotating the pictures to produce more interesting work. Many people have said that Sara’s paintings and my photography complement each other well, and we usually exhibit our work together.
