Three Generations volunteer for Dame Hannahs

Three generations of one family have started volunteering for Dame Hannahs. The Williams family from Southway, Plymouth all play an important part in the Dame Hannahs warehouse and shop in Transit Way, Plymouth.

Lisa Williams joined her husband Adam as a volunteer in the Dame Hannahs Transit Way warehouse in 2018. Initially Lisa continued her job as Early Years Practitioner at Plymouth University until 2020 when she was offered a job with Dame Hannahs. Having worked in Early Years since leaving school and after 11 years at Plymouth University, she started her new job sorting and processing Gift Aid donations in the warehouse. In September this year Lisa was promoted to Transit Way Site Manager and now manages a team of staff and volunteers.

Once she had become settled in her role at Dame Hannahs, Lisa managed to recruit her mother Carol and father in law Dave as volunteers in the Transit Way warehouse. During the school holidays her children Kowen and Kacie also volunteer so she has got the whole family involved.

Talking about her family’s involvement at Dame Hannahs, Lisa Williams said “It is lovely to have my whole family involved. They are all really enjoying their volunteering experience while learning and developing new skills. I find that my work at Dame Hannahs is very busy and fulfilling. I work with a lovely team and they are like another family to me. No two days are the same and I am constantly meeting new people and facing new challenges which has shown me that I have different strengths in myself”.

Dame Hannahs Head of Retail, Daniel Burke said “It is amazing to have three generations of the same family supporting Dame Hannahs either as volunteers or as members of staff and this is something which we see replicated in our care teams also. The Williams family have become an integral part of our Dame Hannah family and the wealth of knowledge and experience they bring has enabled us to further develop what was already a very successful store. These multigenerational teams we find here at Dame Hannahs really goes to show how invested people become once they become a part of Dame Hannahs”.
