Harry
Harry started at Dame Hannahs on 16th June 2025 just after his 18th birthday and he lives in Newberry bungalow. He is severely sight impaired with right side hemiplegia and has severe autism, a learning delay and nocturnal epilepsy.
Harry’s grandmother Mary said "Harry is settling in well and gradually getting to know his support workers and starting to make friends. We have known about Dame Hannahs for quite a few years. We used to come and use the hydrotherapy pool when Harry was quite small and we liked the set up. Before joining Dame Hannahs Harry attended Woodlands Special School in Plymouth starting in the nursery aged 2 right up until he moved to Dame Hannahs aged 18. He loved his school life with his teachers and friends.
Harry loves hydro and rebound and he loves most music particularly Reggae and anything with a strong beat. He loves a bit of rough and tumble and he can be very mischievous. Harry has a very infectious giggle and he uses a mirror quite a lot of the time to see what’s going on as he quite often finds looking directly at people a bit worrying. Harry comes across as very shy but when he gets to know you he interacts very well.
He’s such a giggler and his cuddles are great. We miss him very much at home but we feel a move was right for Harry. As we get older we want him to be settled into his adult life with our support and we didn’t want to face the possibility of having to move him suddenly. Dame Hannahs is quite close to where we live so we can see him often. Although we’re not quite so sure he thinks that’s such a good thing! Harry really is embracing adult life in his new home and we’re very happy.”
