Rosy celebrates 70th Birthday with Wing Walk

Friday 10 May 2019

Daredevil Rosy Holland is bravely celebrating her 70th birthday with a Wing Walk! Having celebrated her 60th birthday with a flight in a Tiger Moth, Rosy was keen to take on a new challenge to celebrate her 70th. The Wing Walk takes place at Bodmin Airfield on July 2nd.

As she approached her big birthday, Rosy decided that she was not ready to slow down yet and wanted to take on a new challenge. She decided to support Dame Hannahs when she met a young person supported by the charity and also read about the Wing Walk in the press. Rosy retired from teaching 15 years ago and has led a busy and active life ever since.

Rosy has already raised £3,000 for Dame Hannahs but is still busy fundraising. She is a member of several groups who have all helped her raise money for the charity. She organised a cake and coffee sale for her Taiko Drumming group, Teignmouth Methodist Church organised a cream tea while her walking group and Singalong group have also been helping her fundraise. She has also been supported by some of the families from Trinity Prep School where she taught for 20 years.

Not only did Rosy celebrate her 70th birthday with a family party but she also teamed up with seven other 70 year old friends for a ‘7 at 70’ fundraising event at Teignmouth Rugby Club. In all her fundraising efforts she is supported by her husband Ken and children Andrew and Clare and their families. Keen photographer Ken has given some photography presentations of their recent trip to India and also raised money for Dame Hannahs.

Rosy said “I wanted to do the Wing Walk to show people that whatever age you are you can still be an inspiration to others. Dame Hannahs is a wonderful charity and there is such a lot of joy there”.

Emma Boulton from Dame Hannahs fundraising team said “We are incredibly grateful to Rosy for taking on this big challenge to raise vital funds for our young people at Dame Hannahs. We really appreciate the hard work and dedication of supporters like Rosy. She is such a huge inspiration to us all”.
