Keeping it in the Family

Mollie Goodwin-Wright is the seventh member of the Goodwin family to work at Dame Hannahs. Mollie has joined her Nan Julie, Great Aunt Joyce, mother Leah and sister Chloe who all work there while her Uncle Ryan and Aunt Gemma worked at Dame Hannahs until recently.

Mollie who is working in Marchesi bungalow said “I heard about the job as my Nan, Mum, Great Aunt and sister all work here! I have always heard about Dame Hannahs from them. I see this job as a good stepping stone as I can get really good experience and training. I plan to do NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care. I only started in March but it feels like I have been here for ages. I feel really settled and have got to know the young adults and staff in Marchesi really well”.

Julie Goodwin who is Team Leader in The Mews, the high dependency medical residential unit, started working at Dame Hannahs in 2000. She said “I have a niece with Cerebral Palsy who I have always helped to look after and I was keen to help other young people with disabilities. When I joined Dame Hannahs I started off working as a Support Worker in Children’s Services before moving on to work with the young adults in the bungalows and later on becoming a Team Leader. I talked a lot about Dame Hannahs with my children and grandchildren and got them involved from an early age and one by one family members have joined the care team as support workers. It is lovely to work alongside my sister, daughter and two granddaughters, and my son and other daughter worked here until recently. I have really enjoyed working at Dame Hannahs and have seen a lot of changes over the years. It is good to see our young people getting out and about in the community much more than when I first started. And as our age group has extended I have seen young children grow into adults and really develop. I never thought I would stay so long but 21 years later I am still here!”
