Coronavirus Statement from our Chair of Trustees
At Dame Hannahs we continue to monitor the rapidly developing Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. Our resident children and young adults are now safely isolated with their groups in their homes. Following our earlier announcement that we have temporarily closed all our charity shops and all respite services, our Ivybridge site is now open only to staff directly engaged in taking care of our residents and other staff who are on standby for maintaining the safe and secure operation of the site. However, this has not stopped us from making sure that all our residents continue to enjoy everyday life – albeit in some different ways. Our exceptional care staff are constantly coming up with new ideas for keeping everyone engaged and entertained and I want to pay tribute to the way they conduct themselves when they, like every one of us, have to deal with the worries and anxieties caused by Coronavirus.
The health and protection of all our staff and those we care for are more important to us than ever. During these unprecedented and challenging times the staff at Dame Hannah’s are ensuring that all our residents continue to receive the best possible care and we are taking every precaution to keep both our staff and young people safe. So again, let me thank our staff for their professionalism, dedication and commitment in enabling our young people to lead as fulfilled lives as possible during this difficult time.
We are eternally grateful to all our volunteers and supporters. You will have read that Dame Hannah’s, from July 2020, will concentrate its care and education services on young adults as we have seen changing patterns of provision and a growth in services for younger children offered by other agencies and organisations. With the postponement of many fundraising activities and the closure of our shops, your ongoing support for our charity is more important than ever. Dame Hannahs will need you not just at this difficult time, but long into the future. Keep safe. Following government advice will mean we come through these testing times sooner.
