Success for Dame Hannahs Charity Shops in Annual Survey
Thursday 14 November 2019
Dame Hannahs is one of the leaders in a national survey of charity shops published by Civil Society and supported by the Charity Retail Association. The definitive annual survey of the charity retail market shows that profits are up within the charity sector. The findings also show that, although there are more charity shops closing than opening, there are now more charity superstores.
A total of 71 charities with 6445 shops from all over the UK, including 791 in the South West, took part in the survey. Dame Hannahs features alongside major national charities such as the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research and Oxfam. Dame Hannahs’ first shop opened in Ivybridge in 1988 and the charity now has eight shops in Ivybridge, Newton Abbot, Plymouth and Saltash.
In the survey Dame Hannahs charity shops came top in the Non-Hospice Profitability category and third in the Highest Weekly Profit per shop for Non-Hospice charities with 10 shops or less. The charity ranked third in the Volunteering section with Dame Hannahs volunteers averaging 9 hours each a week with an average of 16 volunteers per shop. This is despite a general drop in volunteering nationwide. Dame Hannahs shops have also shown significant progress with Gift Aid Income with 18% of donations being gift aided.
Head of Fundraising Daniel Burke said “Every year when the Charity Shops Survey is produced I am truly humbled by all of the time and effort given to our stores by our dedicated staff and volunteers which enables Hannahs to become top of the list yet again! We would never be able to raise these vital funds through our shops without everything they do and the support of our loyal donors”.
