Chernobyl Children visit Seale-Hayne

A group of children from Belarus visited Seale-Hayne last week. They are staying in Devon for a month thanks to the charity Chernobyl Children's Life Line.

They spent a memorable day enjoying the countryside with activities such as making camp fires and bread and picking strawberries. They went for a swim in the hydrotherapy pool and tried their hands at being radio presenters. They loved their time in the Access All Aerials studio singing along to songs in both English and Russian.

This is the fourth year of Hannahs collaboration with Chernobyl Children’s Life Line, a charity which was founded in 1992 to support the children and their families from Belarus and Ukraine forever affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986. The children are staying with host families in Devon for a month.

Rebecca Bowen-Keay from Hannahs said “It is staggering to hear that a month in Devon can extend the life expectancy of these kids by three years. A day out was the least we could offer to those who have lost parents, whose parents are chronically ill, and who are only expected on average to reach 42 years of age. We hope that we gave the children a fun and memorable day”.
