Nina
Nina is 46 years old and has Rett Syndrome and Epilepsy. She started coming to Dame Hannahs 12 years ago, initially for respite in Gilleys and later accessing day services in Blachford. She recently moved into Newberry where she lives full time. Before joining Dame Hannahs she lived at home and accessed Promoting Independence South West.
Nina’s father Dave first heard about Dame Hannahs when he was a young apprentice in the dockyard. Many of the Navy boys would raise money for Dame Hannahs so he used to hear the name all the time. Later in life Nina’s original consultant Jeff Perham was Chair of Trustees at Dame Hannahs and he gave Nina’s parents a great insight into what Dame Hannahs was like.
Nina particularly enjoys her hydrotherapy sessions and anything involving water. She also loves pampering, having her hair and nails done along with a nice hand massage. Nina communicates to the world using her eyes and they sparkle. She has such a lovely smile and giggle and loves anything fun. She just seems to like everyone who is around and adapts to new people so well. She is very accepting of others.
Dave said “Since starting at Dame Hannahs Nina has had more in her life. We always tried to get her out and about everyday but now she has people around her and different activities to take part in all the time. Nina likes all the support workers who take care of her but Bridget is probably her favourite as she has worked with her for so long.
We always knew when Nina went to day placement at Dame Hannahs she was going to a happy, safe place. Nina was always tired when she got home so we knew she had a busy fun packed day and that is what we wanted for her. It meant myself and my wife were able to spend time together whilst Nina was with everyone at Dame Hannahs having fun.
